As a guy, there’s a good chance that you’re developing a pot belly and want to know how to lose belly fat. Most of the population is getting a little chunky around the midsection. However, just because many people are doing it doesn’t make it look any better. You see those guys on the Bowflex commercials with a six-pack and it makes you yearn for the good old days. Back when you could take your shirt off at the beach and not be mistaken for a marine animal washed ashore. You want to look good again, but perhaps you have no idea where to start.

Should you buy one of those ab machines that you see on the late night infomercials? Should you start doing an inordinate amount of crunches at all hours of the day and night? Actually, this mentality is what kills some people’s plans before they even get started.

You see people with six-packs doing crunches or leg lifts or whatever else is designed to tone your core. You associate the six-pack with the exercise. However, this is a pretty far stretch from the truth. What they didn’t show you is the workout that these guys go through before they do the commercial. They didn’t show you what they eat every day before they did the commercial.

The real secret to getting that six-pack that you’ve always wanted is a healthy diet and doing the right exercises. What are the right exercises for burning fat? They might not be what you think. Most people believe that you should do hours and hours of cardio in order to get the results you seek. This won’t really give you the results that you want and you’ll probably get burnt out after a couple of workouts.

Weight training and short interval workouts are what you need to focus on. This will get rid of your gut faster than anything. Interval workouts are great because they work your muscles at 100% effort for short bursts. They then require a lot of energy to replenish themselves and therefore burn through the fat. In addition to that, they’re usually preferred by most people. I’d rather sprint at full speed for 30 seconds at a time than I would jog for an hour. Jogging is time consuming and requires a lot of dedication. With interval training, you do it and it’s over.

Using weights doesn’t have to be about bulking up for football season. It is actually a great way to get in shape for everyone. Your muscles will be worked which burns more fat than cardio ever could. In addition to that, it won’t exactly hurt your feelings if your muscles are a little more defined than they used to be, will it?

You can lose belly fat and you can do it relatively quickly. As a man, you’ll probably start to notice results pretty quick. You might not have the six-pack by next week, but you’ll be a lot better off than you were. Just stick with your workout and the pounds will fly off.
