Ways To Lose Weight
Are you sick of being overweight? Have you tried different diets but find that nothing seems to work for you?Do you feel like your weight makes you stand out from the crowd? Or do you feel you are fighting a losing battle when it comes to weight loss?
Looking and feeling good is important for everybody's self-esteem. Not only this, being overweight can make us feel lethargic and even lead to depression. If you've struggled with weight loss in the past, I could have the answers you are looking for. In the following paragraphs I will show you how you can lose weight the healthy way without having to turn your life upside down.
Weight gain can be a trap that is very hard to escape from. The more we eat the more unhappy we feel. These negative emotions are often a root cause of eating problems. Healthy eating requires that you do away with these negative emotions.
Healthy weight loss requires that you do two simple things - eat healthily and exercise regularly. Restrictive diets can be good for losing weight in the short-term, but are not effective for maintaining a healthy weight. Restrictive diets set you up to fail.
Restrictive dieting usually requires you to make sudden, dramatic changes to your eating habits that are usually unsustainable. The big problem here is that you will probably return to your original wait and be left with a feeling of failure as well. This kind of failure does little to boost your confidence.
Also, restrictive diets, by their nature, deprive us of many of the foods we enjoy and it can come as a sudden shock going from eating what you want one day to a very limited diet the next. This sense of deprivation make make dieting a very difficult task.
However, it doesn't have to be this way. If you take things at your own pace it can be quite easy to lose weight. You need a weight-loss plan that you can sustain. You need to change your eating and exercising habits slowly and consistently so they become natural and comfortable for you over time.
Even the smallest changes can make a difference. In fact, small changes are a better idea at the start. Any changes you make should not leave you feeling too deprived. As an example, you could start by removing one sweet thing from your diet. It shouldn't be too hard to incorporate a small change like this into your life. After a couple of weeks it should become natural. Even though it is just a small change, it will probably leave you looking and feeling noticeably better.
When you feel that you have adapted to one change you can think about making another. Maybe this time concentrate on exercise. A good first step would be to arrange to meet with a personal trainer twice a week at your local gym. Keep this up until it feels normal for you and move onto the next stage of your weight loss plan. Two small changes won't make a huge difference but you should already have lost a little weight, and be feeling healthier and happier.
If you want to shed those pounds you need to develop the right habits. Once these habits become natural to you, you should be able to reach and maintain your desired weight with little effort.
Be sure to reward yourself along the way and to celebrate your achievements. Take note of every step you take in the right direction as it is too easy to forget our achievements. Focus on the positive, not on the things that you haven't done so well.
Keeping a journal or making a list of your successes will help you remember how well you are doing. Writing down your successes will remind you of what you have achieved and you can look back over them when you need some encouragement.
To do away with your old bad habits and to adopt new, healthy ones you have to be in the right frame of mind. You need to stay in a positive frame of mind so do not leave any negative thoughts creep in. Your mindset will be reflected in how successful you are.
So, if you think "It doesn’t matter what I do, I never lose weight" or "I’ve always been like this" you will find it much more difficult to lose weight. On the other hand, positive thoughts like "I am enjoying the weight-loss process" or "I know I can reach my desired weight" will bring about positive results.
I always say that only you can decide on the right weight loss plan for you. You need to experiment and find out what will work for you in the long-term.
Because you are setting your own goals and making your own rules, you have an excellenct chance of success. This is your journey, not someone else's, so you have to make the rules.
None of us are perfect. It is quite possible that you could slip up and eat something you shouldn't eat or stop exercising for a couple of days. Just one small slip up doesn't mean you have failed, so don't let it discourage you. Just resume your healthy eating and normal excercise routine as quickly as possible and try to learn from the experience. Also, ask yourself why you did slip up in the first place. Maybe you were having a particularly stressful day or you received some bad news? If you know your weak spots you will be much better prepared the next time a similar situation arises.
In some ways, the first couple of weeks of a diet can be the easiest as your motivation will be high. However, maintaining this motivation in the long-term can be very difficult. Your true motivation for losing weight will depend on you, and could be anything from wanting to look better to wanting to be able to run faster. Write these down and put them somewhere you can read them again when you begin to feel de-motivated. This should help you when it all seems like too much.
