Is your weight getting you down? Are you searching for a diet that
suits your needs?Do you feel like your weight makes you stand out from
the crowd? Or have you simply given up all hope of ever gaining your
ideal weight? Weight gain can be a trap that is very hard to escape from. Overeating can often cause feelings of guilt. These negative emotions are often a root cause of eating problems. Healthy eating requires that you do away with these negative emotions. When it comes down to it, healthy weight loss requires two simple things - a healthy diet and regular exercise. You may have had some success in the past with restrictive diets, but for me this is the wrong approach. Restrictive diets set you up to fail. Restrictive diets are usually fine for a couple of weeks but sustaining them in the long-term is almost impossible. Too often you will find yourself back at square one, or worse. This kind of failure does little to boost your confidence. With restrictive diets, the sudden shock of having your diet limited so dramatically can make it very hard to cope. Not being able to eat the foods we enjoy the most only makes us want them more. However, it is possible to take much of the pain out of losing weight by taking the right approach. Sustainability is the key here. If you take it one step at a time you can make the changes necessary to lose weight without it being overwhelming. The changes you make need not be dramatic. In fact, small changes are a good idea, especially at the beginning. You need to be comfortable with any changes you make. So, you could start with something simple like eating a healthier breakfast with less sugar. This is a small sacrifice that you should be able to handle and you will soon feel the benefits. Within a couple of weeks this new habit should seem natural to you. Even small changes like this can make a big difference. When you feel that you have adapted to one change you can think about making another. Maybe this change will involve you getting more exercise. You could start by going to the gym twice a week. Again, this should feel like a normal part of your daily routine after a couple of weeks and you can decide on another small change to make. Two small changes won't make a huge difference but you should already have lost a little weight, and be feeling healthier and happier. Also, you should write down every success in a journal and a list and keep it close at hand. This will remind you of what you have achieved when you need encouragement in the future. To lose weight the healthy way you have to be in the right frame of mind. You need to stay in a positive frame of mind so do not leave any negative thoughts creep in. If you feel good about the weight-loss process you will see greater results. Try to avoid thoughts like "This is too difficult for me" or "I will never be able to lose weight. However, if you think "There is no reason why I shouldn't be slim" or "I enjoy eating well and excrcising regularly", then your chances of success will be much, much higher. The only person who can come up for the perfect weight loss plan for you, is you. You will have to set goals that you can achieve comfortably and at your own pace. This is a much better idea than following a weight loss plan that was drawn up by someone else. Only you will know your own limits so you need to do this on your own terms, not somebody else's. Nobody is perfect. It is quite common for people on diets to lose focus and eat some fattening foods or miss out on a few days exercise. If this happens to you, don't let it get you down. However, you need to resume your healthy diet and exercise patterns as soon as possible. Try to identify why you reverted to overeating or ate fattening food. Maybe you were unhappy or worried. If you can identify what made you overeat or stop exercising you have a good chance of preventing it from happening in the future. In some ways, the first couple of weeks of a diet can be the easiest as your motivation will be high. However, maintaining this motivation for months, or even years, can be a different matter. This could be things like increased self confidence, the clothes you will be able to wear, or just feeling healthy. Once you know what your true motivations for losing weight are, write them down and keep them somewhere you can look at them again whenever you want. This should help you when it all seems like too much.
