Weight Loss Success
You can achieve weight loss success if you really want to. Have your previous attempts at dieting ended in failure?Do you avoid social gatherings because of your weight? Or have you resigned to being overweight?
Looking and feeling good is important for everybody's self-esteem. Carrying extra weight can also leave us feeling lethargic and de-motivated. But don't despair, shedding those extra pounds can be easy if you take the right approach. Here, I will take you through some steps that will help you lose weight the easy way so you can enjoy a healthier and happier lifestyle.
In many ways, weight gain is a vicious cycle. Overeating can often cause feelings of guilt. And feeling bad about ourselves only causes us to eat more. If you want to lose weight you must escape this unhealthy cycle.
A healthy diet and regular exercise are the two main ingredients needed when it comes to losing weight. Many people try to lose weight with restrictive diets but I do not recommend these. Restrictive diets ask for too much, too soon.
Restrictive diets are usually fine for a couple of weeks but sustaining them in the long-term is almost impossible. Too often you will find yourself back at square one, or worse. A failed diet can leave you worse off than no diet at all.
Another problem with restrictive diets is that they leave us feeling deprived by taking many of the things we enjoy eating away at once. The fact that you can't have the foods you want only makes you want them more.
But there is an easier way. If you approach the process of losing weight on your own terms and your own pace you are much more likely to succeed. You need to lose weight in a manner that you can sustain in the long-term. The secret is to change your diet and exercise habits one step at a time so you do not feel overwhelmed.
Every change you make, no matter how small, is a step in the right direction. In fact, small changes are a better idea at the start. You need to be able to easily adapt to any changes you make. As an example, you could start by removing one sweet thing from your diet. A small change like this shouldn't be too hard to adjust to. Keep this up and constantly remind yourself of the good it is doing you. By the time a couple of weeks have passed you will look and feel much better.
Once you have become comfortable with the one small change, it is time to add another. Maybe this time concentrate on exercise. For example, you could start by committing to exercise for 20 minutes every day. Keep this up until it feels normal for you and move onto the next stage of your weight loss plan. Two small changes like this may not see the pounds falling off but you should already begin to see an improvement in your health and your weight.
Every step you take towards your reaching your desired weight is a success, and you should celebrate each one. Too often we simply forget about the great things we achieve. So, focus on what you do well in this process, not on the things you could have done better.
Be sure to write down your successes so you can look back over them in the future. This it will make for interesting and encouraging reading as the months go by.
Successfully losing weight, healthily and easily, requires that you are in the right mindset. You need to stay in a positive frame of mind so do not leave any negative thoughts creep in. Your mindset will be reflected in how successful you are.
So, if you think "It doesn’t matter what I do, I never lose weight" or "I’ve always been like this" you will find it much more difficult to lose weight. On the other hand, positive thoughts like "I am enjoying the weight-loss process" or "I know I can reach my desired weight" will bring about positive results.
The only person who can come up for the perfect weight loss plan for you, is you. With a little experimentation you should be able to identify the steps that you can take comfortably that will help you lose weight.
This is a much better idea than following a weight loss plan that was drawn up by someone else. Only you know what foods you like and when you will have time to exercise, so you need to lose weight on your own terms.
It is impossible to get everything 100 per cent right. It is likely that you will slip up on occasion and eat more than you should or lose your motivation to exercise. Just one small slip up doesn't mean you have failed, so don't let it discourage you. But it is important that you resume your new healthy eating and exercising patterns as quickly as possible so old bad habits don't take hold again. Also, ask yourself why you did slip up in the first place. Maybe you were unhappy or worried. If you can identify what made you overeat or stop exercising you have a good chance of preventing it from happening in the future.
When you start out on anything new, including losing weight, it is easy to maintain motivation for the first few weeks. It is when we try to keep this level of motivation up over long periods of time that we experience problems. This could be things like increased self confidence, the clothes you will be able to wear, or just feeling healthy. Take note of these and refer to them any time you need some extra motivation. This should help you to make it through the tough times.
